- Jan. 01, 2006Unless you're planning a trip themed on a certain hit TV drama on ABC, the last thing you want winners to feel on an incentive trip is lost. To keep attendees on track as they go from a morning meeting to an afternoon tour to an evening gala, or as they explore a city on their own,
The Map Network provides interactive customized maps of cities, resorts or trade shows.
The Marine Corps used The Map Network to create guides for its annual marathon in Washington, D.C., in October, which attracts about 30,000 runners and attendees. Their maps included details like course elevation, locations of restaurants and Metro stations, and a guide to viewing locations for spectators.
"I’ve heard from runners, sponsors and vendors, and people are just amazed at the map," says Marc Goldman, marketing coordinator for the marathon.
The online version of the maps first appear as bare bones as possible—city streets only. By checking boxes on a toolbar, attendees can add attractions, transportation or dining. Each location is color-coded, and a click on an icon pulls up details, such as the name, phone number and URL of a venue. For a large group with activities in several locations, the maps can be set up so attendees can reserve tee times or theater tickets.
Prices vary, but Green gave a $7,000 to $10,000 range for a 400-person incentive trip for both online and traditional fold-out maps, which he says are good for messages, such as a congratulatory letter from the CEO. "Any other collateral you give them will get left in the hotel room, but this they’ll put in their pocket."
