Program Aims to Ease Air Bookings

The SkyTeam Alliance—an affiliation of 10 carriers, including Delta, Continental, and Northwest—has launched a new offering promising efficiencies in booking international meetings.

A highlight of the product, called Global Meetings, is the ability for a meeting planner to register an event with any of the SkyTeam members from one website. The planner then can provide attendees with a link to that site, where they can book their flights. "It is aimed at large-scale global meetings with attendees coming from various countries," says Chris Clarke, regional sales manager with Continental Airlines and a member of SkyTeam's sales coordination committee.

When an event has been registered and is officially validated by SkyTeam Global Meetings, the planner is assigned an event identification code for bookings and a SkyTeam coordinator for the event. Attendees use the code when purchasing tickets, and Global Meetings tracks tickets purchased and used. Planners can earn reward tickets based on the number of tickets used, and attendees can accrue frequent flyer miles for any member airline.

Other airlines in the alliance are Aeroflot, Aeromexico, Air France, KLM, Alitalia, Czech Airlines, and Korean Air. AirFrance's Guillaume Acolas, the Sky-Team alliance coordinator for the French market, says eight SkyTeam carriers will offer discounts on published fares through Global Meetings.
