Much to the delight of some meeting planners, Marriott International now reveals the total price for a stay at any of its hotels—including all mandatory fees and taxes—at the time guests book their rooms on a Marriott website. Many travelers and meeting planners alike have grown exasperated with the common practice by hotels to quote a base rate that does not include various mandatory charges. Planners have been frustrated, too, that sales and occupancy taxes, which vary widely from destination to destination, are not included in price quotes.Other hotel companies have made some moves toward additional disclosure of charges, but Marriott's new policy appears to be the most advanced in the industry. "We want to ensure that our guests are as fully informed as possible about the actual price of a guest room, including taxes, before making their reservations," said Amy McPherson, Marriott's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "Total Trip Pricing will remove much of the uncertainty in planning and budgeting."On Marriott websites, Total Trip Pricing provides the pricing breakdown in an easy-to-read, line-by-line layout before customers complete their online reservations. It includes both common charges such as taxes and resort fees, and charges specific to the individual reservation, such as late checkout. The all-inclusive price is quoted by telephone reservationists only when requested by the caller. The program is in place for all Marriott brands, including Renaissance Hotels & Resorts.
