News from the Chiefs: Foxwoods' and Mohegan Sun's New Group Developments

Last year, after a $6 million conversion of what used to be buffet space, Mohegan Sun opened the appropriately named Uncas American Grill (the casino resort is located in Uncasville, CT). The 15,000-square-foot restaurant specializes in indigenous Mohegan ingredients and dishes, such as corn, beans, squash, local seafood, and succotash. A private group space seats 40; larger groups (the restaurant seats 340) can do takeovers.

Meanwhile, Foxwoods, located not far from Mohegan Sun in Mashantucket, CT, broke ground last November on a $700 million expansion. The new development, scheduled to be completed in 2008, will include an 825-room hotel, a 21,000-square-foot spa with 20 treatment rooms, four new restaurants, four lounges, and 115,000 square feet of meeting space, including the largest ballroom in the Northeast (50,000 square feet of column-free space) and a 4,000-seat events theater—bringing the total for the property to 170,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space.
