(Originally published October 10, 2005)Mashantucket, Conn. — Both courses at the new Lake of Isles golf club at Foxwoods Resort Casino are now open, though you'll have to be a member (or know one) to play the South Course.The North (Resort) Course, which opened to the public on May 21, features a challenging 7,300-yard layout that follows the natural terrain surrounding the namesake Lake of Isles.The South Course, which opened in April, is available only to the club's 298 members and their guests. Both were designed by Reese Jones and are managed by Troon Golf.Group outings on the North Course and instruction via the Lake of Isles Golf Academy can be arranged through Foxwoods; groups also can take advantage of the new Matches Tavern, now open in the Lake of Isles Clubhouse and featuring fine American cuisine on a patio overlooking the lake, as well as an indoor bar with large-screen TVs.The clubhouse also features a large banquet facility that already is popular with groups coming over from Foxwoods, which typically arrange for a golf outing followed by a barbecue or dinner for participants.Joan Esneault, director of group sales and marketing at Foxwoods, said Lake of Isles has provided a big boost to the resort's meeting and convention business, attracting new groups that are interested primarily in golf and encouraging planners to extend their meetings by a day to work in a golf outing."We were sending many groups far away for golf," Esneault said. "It's such a convenience to have it right across the street."
