Los Angeles -- Canon Communications has agreed to acquire from Reed Elsevier eight trade shows focused on the country's technology-based manufacturing industry.
Already a producer of leading, technology-based manufacturing events on the West and East coasts, Canon said the acquisition will position the company as the primary producer of such events in the Midwest. The acquisition will also strengthen Canon's events serving the Southeast and New England manufacturing regions.
"In less than a year, Canon has fulfilled our goal of expanding our role in the advanced, technology-based manufacturing sector through organic and acquisition-driven growth," Canon chief executive Charles McCurdy said Wednesday in announcing the acquisition agreement.
"As the acquisitions of the Reed assets and of Octo Media earlier this year illustrate, this is a very attractive segment in which we can increase the critical role we play globally," McCrudy added. "We will continue to look closely at other acquisitions that will increase Canon's market reach."
The Reed Elsevier trade shows to be acquired are the following: Assembly Technology Expo, National Manufacturing Week, International Powder & Bulk Solids, and Quality Expo, all in Rosemont, Ill.; NEPCON East/Assembly East, in Boston; Quality Expo Detroit, in Novi, Minn.; AM Expo, in Greenville, S.C.; and Powder & Bulk Solids Southeast, in Atlanta. Canon will also acquire Powder/Bulk Solids magazine.
A unit of Apprise Media Company, Canon produces 11 trade shows at present, most of which take place in the United States.
The pending sale, terms of which were undisclosed, fits into Reed's plans to refocus its business-to-business operations in North America on the home enhancement, security, luxury and lifestyle, and life science and healthcare sectors, the company said.
