Baltimore -- The Orioles baseball team has sued the city over construction of a publicly financed hotel, claiming the city has blocked access to the main entrance of the team's home stadium, Camden Yards. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Baltimore Circuit Court, seeks an injunction to force the city to provide access to the stadium's Pratt Street entrance two hours before and after games. A hearing scheduled for Friday.Construction on the 752-room Hilton Hotel, which is located adjacent to the convention center, began in January. The first game of the new season at Camden Yards is scheduled for April 3.The Orioles claim that the closure of streets near the main entrance will force large numbers of people attending home games to walk along narrow streets and through a wood tunnel to access the stadium. In the lawsuit, the Orioles assert that the detours are "a disaster waiting to happen."The Orioles have proposed that the city erect metal fences to keep people away from the construction site, but City Solicitor Ralph Tyler said such a solution would impede construction. Tyler said alternate routes will allow fans safe access to the stadium.
