Executives Gone Wild

It's not exactly Girls Gone Wild! but at the normally staid G-8 Summit in July a video of President Bush strolling behind German Chancellor Angela Merkel and delivering an impromptu shoulder rub was, well, as wild as it gets.

Pamela Holland, author of Help! Was that a Career Limiting Move? (Career Skills Press, 2005) says the incident offers a valuable lesson on how top executives should behave in meetings. "Business etiquette has to be gender neutral," says Holland. "For meaningful dialogue to occur, you can't single anyone out, and that's what happened here. As the most powerful person at that meeting, the President had a responsibility to be mindful of his body language and gestures."
