Already impacting association events, virtual meetings technology is now setting its sights on association education, according to Peach New Media, which this week announced the introduction of two new products: Virtual Study Groups and Mobile Study Groups.
The products — a hybrid of live webinars and interactive online communities — allow associations to offer ongoing, long-term virtual learning events, according to Peach, which specializes in online learning solutions for associations.
"Most of our clients who are using VSGs are offering four- to six-week courses, charging anywhere from $99 to $900 and including a variety of media, such as weekly study group webinars, assigned on-demand videos, requirements to post in e-group message boards, and even weekly quizzes and tests to pass," said Peach COO Johnson Cook. "What's really amazing is how successful these courses are at attracting registrations and revenue for associations because members are really hungry for deeper courses with more complex information and collaborative opportunities with fellow members. With the VSG format, faculty can require homework assignments, simulations, peer review and so much more that really pulls learners in to the content."
According to Peach, its association clients prefer VSGs to on-demand education because they're scheduled and offer limited seating — just like live events.
"We currently sue Peach Virtual Study Groups to power a program for our members called 'Basic Skills Virtual Coffeehouse,'" said Illinois State Bar Association Director Jeanne Heaton. "It has been a big success with our younger members."
