Experient Releases Best Practices for SMMP

Twinsburg, Ohio-based Experient has released the results of a study it sponsored on strategic meetings management processes (SMMP) in the corporate world. Study results revealed that adequate spending on large-scale corporate meetings and events has not been part of a centralized strategic management budget in most corporations. A decentralized structure combined with the lack of a comprehensive meetings management strategy sets the stage for ineffective management and the potential for spending to spiral out of control as the needs and requests of each individual group within the organization are addressed.

Top corporations in the study achieved "generous cost savings and increased compliance" with corporate polices by using unique strategies and technology to manage their meetings and events programs, according to the "Strategic Meetings Management" study published by Aberdeen, a Harte-Hanks Company. The study of Experient customers focused on best-in-class practices in five distinct areas; sourcing, attendee registration/management, developing a preferred supplier program, establishing standardized contracts and controlling meeting spend.

"By utilizing meetings management technology and establishing a collaborative relationship between meetings and event planners and procurement, best-in-class enterprises are achieving better policy compliance and higher rates of cost savings," said Andrew Bartolini, vice president, Aberdeen. "These corporate meetings and events management leaders are successfully using procurement strategies to improve program performance."
