Less than a week after announcing its acquisition of Seed Labs
, a developer of mobile apps for consumer and social events, meetings technology company Cvent has announced the acquisition of a second company: Portland, Ore.-based CrowdCompass, which specializes in mobile apps for business and association events.
Cvent, which provides cloud-based software for event management, site selection and web surveys, said the acquisition will allow it to offer a "cutting-edge solution that will accelerate the popularity of meetings and events, and enhance communications between attendees via social media."
"Cvent's success is predicated on delivering best-of-breed technology solutions to our event industry clients and partners," said Cvent Founder and CEO Reggie Aggarwal. "This acquisition is an important step to ensuring we continue to lead the industry in the adoption of mobile technologies. We selected CrowdCompass because it was clear that they are a leading developer of native mobile apps for business and association events. With experience building hundreds of apps for a wide variety of mid-to large-sized public and private events, the addition of CrowdCompass gives us unparalleled expertise in creating mobile apps for events. We have offered mobile-friendly event websites for some time, but the CrowdCompass product takes the mobile experience to the next level."
CrowdCompass has completed apps for numerous corporations, including E*Trade, Daimler and Intuit; several meetings industry organizations, such as The Meetings Technology Expo; and various associations, such as the American Bar Association, the Association of General Contractors and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. All told, it has built 435 apps that received more than 500,000 downloads by event attendees in the last year. According to Cvent, the company's next move is introducing a "first-of-its-kind solution" that combines event management tools with the ability for planners to create iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry apps for their business events.
"Becoming part of Cvent will allow CrowdCompass to operate on a greater scale than it ever has before," said CrowdCompass Founder and CEO Tom Kingsley. "Our technologies and expertise will be a great fit with Cvent's unmatched reputation and client base; we're looking forward to all the services we will be able to develop under the Cvent umbrella."
