Survey: Most Hotels Expect an Increase in Group Business Next Year

The majority of hoteliers — 88 percent, in fact — expect a growth in group business in 2011, finds a new survey from meetings industry research firm the Knowland Group, the results of which were released last week.

According to the survey, which polled hoteliers about the past and future state of the hospitality industry, 75 percent of hoteliers say 2010 was a better year for group business than 2009; 19 percent of them saw growth less than 5 percent, 43 percent growth of 5 to 10 percent, 31 percent growth of 10 to 25 percent, and 7 percent growth of over 25 percent.

"The hospitality industry is finally starting to improve after several difficult years," said Knowland CEO Michael K. McKean. "Hotels must use professional business development to build upon this momentum and have an even more successful 2011."
