Although hotels rely on meetings and events for critical revenue, managing group room blocks is a major headache for many of them, according to the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), which this week published a new white paper in partnership with meetings technology company Cvent in which it explores the benefits of using real-time data tools to manage group bookings.
Titled "Room Blocks in Real Time," the white paper explores the benefits of automated room block management systems for both meeting planners and hotels. For instance, it points out that software solutions for hotels can facilitate upselling and decrease manual workloads, resulting in more revenue and fewer errors. For meeting planners, meanwhile, they offer 24/7 access to information, customized booking websites, insight into rooming trends by block and room type, deadline reminder alerts that help groups avoid penalties, and increased data security that's compliant with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
"Room block management is still a major pain point for hotels of all sizes and with increasing focus on data security from regulations like GDPR, the need for software solutions that automate time-consuming manual processes, maximize revenue opportunities and ensure secure transfer of information is at an all-time high," said Chris McAndrews, vice president of marketing for Cvent's Hospitality Cloud. "Like us, HSMAI is committed to delivering the information and education hoteliers need to grow their group business and we are proud to partner with them to address the topic of room block management. Our hope is to illustrate the important role technology can play in managing group reservations and creating valuable upsell opportunities for hoteliers around the world."
