Between debates about Open Skies agreements and the passenger facility charge (PFC), the U.S. Travel Association has spent much of 2015 with its eyes on the sky. To help it navigate these and other aviation issues going forward, including an upcoming reauthorization of funding for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it has hired Lorraine Howerton as senior director of government relations, focusing on aviation policy, airport financing, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), it announced yesterday.
Howerton has more than 25 years of public policy experience and has previously worked for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Air Transport Association (now Airlines for America), the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the U.S. House of Representatives.
"As U.S. Travel pursues a national aviation agenda that is pro-competition, pro-growth, and pro-traveler, Lorraine is singularly well-equipped to advance those ideals with key policymakers," said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow. "We were able to add her phenomenal experience and expertise at a critical time, as FAA reauthorization presents an invaluable opportunity to address the issues in our aviation sphere in a comprehensive way -- including fixing our air travel infrastructure and cutting taxes on flyers. I am excited about what Lorraine will be able to achieve on behalf of travelers."
