Amsterdam -- The United States last year hosted the most meetings held by international associations while Vienna took the top spot for cities in rankings compiled by the International Congress & Convention Association.International associations held 376 meetings in the United States. Germany was second, with 320 meetings; and Spain was third, with 275 meetings. The ranking among the top three countries was the same as for 2004. Rounding out the top 10 countries were Britain, France, Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Austria, and Switzerland.Among cities, international associations held 129 meetings in Vienna. Singapore was second, with 125 meetings; and Barcelona was third, with 116 meetings. Rounding out the top 10 cities were Berlin, Hong Kong, Paris, Amsterdam, Seoul, Budapest, and Stockholm.These rankings cover meetings that take place regularly and which rotate between a minimum of three countries.The International Congress identified 5,315 international association events that took place in 2005, a rise of 511 over 2004. The increase partly reflects strength in the market and partly better efforts to identify events, according to the organization.
