On Friday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced that he won't seek re-election in 2016. In response to his retirement, U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement:
"The travel community is sorry to be losing such a stalwart ally as Sen. Reid, but we wish him and his family all the best.
"Sen. Reid has been instrumental in advancing many of the priorities that have helped our industry grow exports and jobs faster than almost any other sector of the economy. As a visionary leader for both Nevada and the entire country, Sen. Reid could always be counted on to listen to policy recommendations that made good plain sense and do everything he could do to help shepherd them through the Senate. From both creating and reauthorizing Brand USA, to budgeting appropriate resources for Customs and Border Protection, to standing for common sense on government travel policies, to moving toward strengthening and expanding the Visa Waiver Program, Sen. Reid has been instrumental at every turn.
"Best wishes for … a long, fulfilling post-Washington life."
