Site — formerly the Society of Incentive Travel Executives — celebrated its 40th anniversary this month at the Site Global Conference 2013, which took place Dec. 7-10 in Orlando.
The meeting, the theme of which was “the world of motivational experiences,” hosted more than 400 incentive travel and motivational events industry professionals from 40 countries.
“As the first global conference in my new role here at Site, I was extraordinarily pleased with the excitement that was palpable throughout this experience,” Site’s new chief staff officer, Kevin Hinton, said in a statement. “We realized a 40 percent growth in attendance over last year’s conference and the buzz at this event was unmistakably positive — a reflection of the destination of Orlando and a recovering incentive industry as well as quality education. The Site global community is strong, and clearly getting stronger. I’m excited about what is ahead in 2014.”
Site was founded in 1973. During its 40-year history, it has grown to have nearly 2,000 members in 90 countries with 29 local and regional chapters. In honor of that achievement, 23 Site past presidents were in attendance.
In addition to celebrating the past, the annual meeting was an opportunity to look to the future: During the meeting, the association reports, Hinton shared the outcomes of Site’s “Painted Picture” strategic planning process, which envisions where the association will be by 2016. The goals include doubling Site’s membership to 4,000, delivering incentive-quality education and being recognized globally as the “I” in MICE.
“This conference is a sure step forward toward making Site the ultimate voice of the incentive travel and motivational events industry,” said Site President David Sand. “We are focused and determined to keep improving our membership proposition as we grow the influence of the incentive industry globally.”
