Included in those companies are 40 percent of the show's original exhibitors, 30 percent of which have more than doubled their booth space.
Other notable increases on the trade show floor:
• Space taken from exhibitors representing Africa and the Middle East is up by 49 percent, Asia by 29 percent, the Caribbean by 61 percent, Latin America by 50 percent and Europe by 14 percent. Space taken from U.S .exhibitors is up by 23 percent.
• Within the industry supply chain, cruise lines have shown a strong appetite for booth space with representation 33 percent greater than last year. Technology companies, meanwhile, are up by 27 percent. Also, there has been a 33 percent increase in private sector companies exhibiting, and a 31 percent increase in exhibiting hotels/hoteliers.
• Organizers expect well over 2,000 hosted buyers to have attended by the close of business on Thursday, with significant increases in buyers from the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Around 1,700 attendees are also set to do business.
Said IMEX Group Chairman Ray Bloom on the show's opening day, "I am … delighted to announce … that IMEX America 2012 is substantially bigger this year with an even greater variety of exhibitors from across the U.S. and around the world. Buyers have made an outstanding number of appointments with exhibitors in the past month and we are certain that an enormous amount of business will be done on the show floor and in the networking receptions over the coming three days."
