Sabre Taps Meeting Venue Booking Engine

Southlake, Texas -- Sabre Travel Network has agreed to add Worktopia's online, meeting venue booking engine to its global distribution system, the first such agreement that the giant of computerized travel reservations has forged.

The service is scheduled to go live on the web-based MySabre booking portal next month. It will enable more than 6,000 North American travel agencies to reserve meeting rooms at more than 2,000 venues, including hotels, conference centers, and offices. The majority of venues are located in the United States, with the remainder located worldwide.

The Worktopia booking engine is designed for meetings of 50 or fewer participants. It allows Sabre agents to enter specific meeting requirements such as location, room types, audio-visual needs, and catering. Search results show availability and pricing, and allow for online reservations.

Participating properties can choose between an annual marketing subscription or paying a commission on bookings. In either case, agents earn booking fees from Worktopia in addition to whatever commissions they earn from hotel room bookings.

Sabre Travel Network is a unit of Sabre Holdings, which also owns Travelocity, a leading online travel agency.
