Registered traveler program provider Verified Identity Pass Inc. has been awarded a contract from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to open expedited security lanes for pre-approved passengers at Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport.
New York-based Verified Identity Pass will design the program and staff the special security Clear lines, set aside for travelers who agree to undergo background checks and register biometric identification information with the company, according to the Washington Business Journal. Clear cards cost about $100.
The company already operates registered traveler lanes at 13 other airports.
Travelers who sign up for the program are required to submit both fingerprints and iris scans, as well as undergo a background check.vIf approved, they can use specific security lines at any of the airports where the program is offered.
The next steps for the company are to draft and submit a proposal on operating the program, according to the Journal.
