London -- Reed Exhibitions yesterday announced plans to launch what it says is the first major international meetings industry trade show in the Arab Gulf region.GIBTM is scheduled to take place next March 27-29 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company Centre, in the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi.The inaugural event will showcase international meetings and incentive suppliers from national tourist organizations, hotels, and destination management companies, among others.The show will also feature a hosted-buyer program that Reed said will bring hundreds of highly qualified buyers to the event from Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Emirates.The Emirates is promoting itself as major new tourism destination. Earlier this month, Dubai, an Emirates member, announced a $27-billion project to build a 31-hotel resort similar to the Las Vegas Strip and a $33-billion project to build the world's largest airport. A unit of Dutch publisher Reed Elsevier, Reed Exhibitions already produces 10 travel trade shows, including the Arabian Travel Market, which is held annually in Dubai; and five meetings and incentive trade shows.
