Palm Beach CVB Former Controller Gets 10 Years

According to a report in the Miami Herald, Donna M. Duffer was sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling almost $1.6 million from the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Working as the bureau's controller, Duffer forged 225 checks over three years to help pay for her online gambling addiction. As part of the sentence she also was ordered to make restitution for the total amount of the theft and was immediately imprisoned. The scandal forced the retirement of the bureau's longtime CEO, Warren ''Mac'' McLaughlin and the resignation of Lee Davis, former vice president of finance and Duffer's immediate supervisor at the time.
