When it announced its slate of 2011 board candidates earlier this month, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) announced its first-ever international board member: Ben Goedegebuure, director of sales for the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow, Scotland.
"We are delighted to appoint Ben as a board member and are confident he will make a valuable contribution to the board given his extensive conference, events and exhibition industry experience," PCMA President and CEO Deborah Sexton said in a statement. "To date, Ben has been extremely supportive of PCMA and its global education initiatives; this, coupled with his experience and his active involvement in the international meetings management scene, makes Ben an obvious choice and an important addition to our board of directors."
Goedegebuure heads SECC's sales team and is responsible for all of the venue's sales and marketing. He joined the facility in 2005 as director of conference sales and was promoted to his current position in 2008. Under his direction, SECC partnered with PCMA earlier this year in order to attract more meetings from the United States and Canada.
"PCMA are an exceptional organization providing high-quality education and setting the agenda for the global meetings and events market," Goedegebuure said. "Over the years, we've made some good friends through PCMA and they have been a key contributor in the SECC's success in North America. This is a genuine honor for me personally and a great opportunity for the SECC to continue to build on our growing U.S. business."
