PCMA Meeting to Benefit Vegas Charities

The Professional Convention Management Association's (PCMA) 55th annual meeting, taking place Jan. 9-12, 2011, in Las Vegas, will benefit several local Vegas charities, which will host volunteers and receive donations, PCMA announced yesterday.

On Sunday, Jan. 9, PCMA will host Hospitality Helping Hands, its community service program. Sponsored by Experient and Marriott's Innovention Network, the program will include two hands-on community service projects that meeting attendees can participate in when they pay a $75 registration fee that goes directly to the charities: U.S. VETS, a support program for homeless veterans, and the WestCare Women and Children Campus, which offers a crisis intervention program for runaways, homeless adolescents, and women and children affected by substance abuse.

Also benefiting from PCMA donations this year will be the Water Conservation Coalition (WCC), which encourages organizations in the Las Vegas Valley to increase their water conservation practices. The recipient of PCMA's Annual Giving Campaign — which is presented by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts — WCC will receive a portion of all individual contributions made to the PCMA Education Foundation in 2011.

On Monday, Jan. 10, PCMA will host its 18th annual Party With a Purpose (PWAP) at the Wynn's Tryst Nightclub. A fundraising event for the meetings industry, this year's event will raise funds for industry research and education while also benefiting St. Jude's Ranch for Children, a nonprofit that's dedicated to healing and caring for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

Finally, PCMA's Network for the Needy program — also benefiting St. Jude's Ranch for Children — will be collecting used greeting cards throughout the meeting. The cover of donated cards will be removed and affixed to blank cards, which St. Jude's residents will sell in order to raise money for the facility.
