PCMA Education Foundation Names 2014 Award Honorees

During the 2014 Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Education Foundation Dinner, taking place May 14, 2014, in Washington, D.C., PCMA will honor Sue Dykema, Janet Sperstad and Carol Wallace, it announced this week.

“It is a privilege to honor these three tremendous women. Their leadership has helped advance our industry and continues to ensure the meetings and events space has a bright future,” PCMA President and CEO Deborah Sexton said in a statement.

Dykema, who is executive director of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, will be honored as this year’s Meeting Professional Honoree for her 30 years of contributions to the meetings industry as both an association executive and an association supplier.

Sperstad, who is program director for the Meeting and Event Management Degree Program at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wis., will be honored as this year’s Educator Honoree. According to PCMA, she founded the Meeting and Event Management associate’s degree at Madison Area Technical College in 2002 and is the co-principal investigator on a research effort to evaluate the impact of hosted buyer programs within the industry.

Finally, Wallace — president and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corp. — is this year’s Supplier Honoree, chosen for her role in the 2001 expansion of the San Diego Convention Center, as well as the facility’s “Phase III” expansion project, currently under discussion in San Diego.
