Orlando Sees Convention Slowdown

The Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau is "seeing softness" in the convention and meetings market, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

In a member memo obtained by the Sentinel, the bureau said in the fourth quarter of 2007 meeting planners were being "extremely conservative" in new bookings. A "lack of confidence" was leading to downsizing events both in the size of groups and scale of meeting.

In the fourth quarter, "some groups decided to postpone booking or holding meetings, instead of contracting and then facing either attrition costs or cancellation costs," the bureau said.
