Dallas -- Just as he appeared to be surfing a wave of success, Colin Rorrie, president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International, announced today that he is resigning. He decided to leave MPI, he said, after determining that he has accomplished his goals for his tenure at the association and that it is looking to adopt a new organizational structure with which he is not very familiar. Hear part 1 and part 2 of the announcement.
Rorrie, who is departing the association six months before his three-year contract expires, told the MPI membership today in a memorandum that he would depart the association this week. Upon being questioned about that during a telephone press conference this afternoon however, he said there was no specific planned date but that he would likely walk out in the next week or two.
Effective this Friday, MPI chairman-elect Mark Andrew, general manager of the Westin Bayshore Resort & Marina in Vancouver, will take a leave of absence from his current position and step in to run MPI during its period of transition. Current chair Christine Duffy will soon appoint a search committee to find Rorrie’s replacement.
