Based on the idea that meeting planning isn't just about logistics — it's about people, relationships and networking — Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has chosen "New Connectivity" as the theme of its 2012 World Education Congress (WEC), taking place July 28-31 in St. Louis, it announced yesterday.
"New Connectivity is an approach that weaves event and meeting planning into the human experience," MPI explained in a statement. "Via person-to-person encounters on-site, social networking during the event, webcasts, mobile or other digital means, New Connectivity creates and fosters human interaction at meetings and events through the many tools available today."
Presenting this year's theme will be two keynote speakers — Jonah Lehrer, author of "Imagine: How Creativity Works," and Nicholas Christakis, co-author of "Connected: The Surprising Power of Our Social Networks" — delivering speeches on "designing human connections."
In addition, this year's WEC provides niche tracks that cater to particular industries and verticals. According to MPI, these tracks will allow smaller networks of people to gather, discuss and engage on topics that resonate with their particular focus.
