MPI Announces New Meetings Industry Awards Program

Dallas-based Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has announced a new and revitalized awards program with which to recognize achievements within the global meetings and events industry. Known as the MPI RISE Awards – Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence – the new and improved awards program features revised categories and criteria that the association says align better with its organizational goals than did its previous awards program.

"During this exciting time for MPI, we have all collaborated to co-create this truly innovative new program and I am thrilled to be a part of the re-imagination process," Hattie Hill, CMM, chairwoman of MPI's Awards and Recognition Task Force, said in a statement.

Last September, Hill and others—including volunteer leaders, MPI staff and MPI members—began the process of revamping the MPI awards program. Their goal: Focus recognition more directly on individuals who are building a rich global meetings industry community around human connections to knowledge, relationships and marketplaces.

The MPI RISE Awards – Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence – do exactly that, according to the association, which will phase in the new awards program beginning next year at WEC 2009 in Salt Lake City. There, it will present its first RISE award, the Organizational Achievement Award. The full awards program—which will include a total of seven annual awards in three categories, including organizational achievement, individual achievement and community achievement—will be presented for the first time at WEC 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Official nominations for all seven RISE awards can be made in early 2009, when MPI plans to distribute an official call for entries. At that time, nominations will for the first time be open to non-MPI members so that the association can honor the best of the best within the industry—regardless of affiliations.
