Largest-Ever IMEX Opens in Frankfurt

IMEX in Frankfurt

The largest IMEX event in the history of the IMEX trade show opened today in Frankfurt, Germany, according to organizer the IMEX Group, which said this year's show features 3,500 exhibiting companies from more than 150 countries, including 55 new booths from every continent and every meetings sector.

This year's show, for instance, features a 16 percent expansion in booths from the Asia Pacific region, and a 16 percent expansion in booths from technology exhibitors. It also features 34 new hosted-buyer groups.

"Demand from buyers to attend the show from across the world has never been higher," the IMEX Group reported. "Hosted buyer attendance from long-haul markets including Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa is forecast to be particularly strong this week; alongside the thousands of buyers due to attend from Europe and Germany."

Kicking off the show today was keynote speaker Bill McDermott, CEO of business software company SAP. "Why do I admire the meetings industry? You are on the frontline in the battle against all the bureaucrats that think that emails and PowerPoints ever changed a darned thing," McDermott told meeting professionals during his keynote address. "You matter because you create a network effect that is not just measured in numbers, because of the people that you touch, because of how many kids will get an education, how many ideas get exchanged, because of the events that the industry is putting on. You are truly changing the world."
