Industry Plans Tribute for Orlando's Gary Sain

The meetings industry will celebrate the life and achievements of the late Gary Sain at a special tribute event taking place on June 26 in Washington, D.C.

Sain, who was president and CEO of Visit Orlando, died suddenly and unexpectedly on May 4 at the age of 61. The tribute will "bring together friends from the travel industry and beyond to honor his memory and continue his legacy," according to the invitation, which noted that Sain "made remarkable contributions to Orlando, our industry and our country."

The event — proceeds from which will benefit the University of Central Florida Gary C. Sain Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund — is being organized by a steering committee made up the following industry organizations:

• The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE)
• Destination D.C.
• Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI)
• Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI)
• The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE)
• The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority
• Meeting Professionals International (MPI)
