Woodbury, N.J. -- Robert K. Talley, the former chairman and president of the association and convention management firm, Talley Management Group, died Tuesday at home here of cancer.
Talley founded Talley Management in 1987 with his son and partner, Gregg, the company's president, and grew it into a firm that now serves more than 40 clients and employs about 65 people.
Talley began his career in the association and event management business in 1975 after a 20-year career in sales and marketing with Mobil Oil Corporation. He was the director of association services for Slack Inc. from 1975 to 1987. During that time Talley managed several of the then-largest medical conventions and associations, including the American Federation for Clinical Research, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Society of Hematology.
Talley was active in the Professional Convention Management Association and was a founding board member and president of PCMA's Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
Talley is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ruth, and daughter Marilee in addition to Gregg. The family suggests donations to PCMA's Hospitality Relief Fund. A memorial service is scheduled for the end of September in Woodbury.
