The new "meeting pod" format for IBTM America -- the show formerly known as AIBTM -- was a resounding success, organizer Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) reported today.
The first IBTM America took place June 9-11 in Chicago. During the event, 250 suppliers met one-on-one with the same number of meeting planners in the privacy of the aforementioned meeting pods, which were created specifically to accommodate hosted-buyer appointments. The pods themselves (pictured) were designed to be a "hassle-free, turnkey" solution, according to RTE, which offered the pods to exhibitors for a flat fee.
According to a post-show survey, 95 percent of exhibitors agreed that the new pod format "signified the ever changing needs of the industry," and that they were likely to exhibit at next year's show based on their experience this year.
All told, RTE reported, IBTM America delivered more than 5,200 pre-scheduled appointments between exhibitors and buyers, with exhibitors partaking in an average of 29 appointments each during the three-day show.
"This was the first edition of IBTM America with the new meeting pod format and we are delighted with the feedback that we have received," Event Director Jaime McAuley said in a statement. "Within weeks of IBTM America 2015 closing we have had more than 57 meeting pods confirmed for 2016 … including British Virgin Island Tourism, Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, Jamaica Tourist Board, Station Casinos, Long Island CVB/Westchester Country Tourism, Experience Grand Rapids, and Myrtle Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau."
IBTM America 2016 will take place June 15-17 in Nashville.
