IAEE Launches Social Media Task Force

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) has launched a new Social Media Task Force, the goal of which will be to develop best practices for the use of social media in the marketing of meetings and events, it announced last week.

Led by Chris Brogan, president of New Marketing Labs LLC, the task force hopes to have its best practices completed by July 1, and an accompany white paper — tentatively titled "How to Properly Use Social Media Networks to Enhance and Promote Your Event" — completed by Sept. 1.

"As is often the case with the introduction of new communications technologies, many people, including IAEE members, are both intimidated and also puzzled by questions involving how best to use each of the different social media networks," IAEE Board Chair Chris Meyer, CEM, CMP, said in a statement. "WE think IAEE can be instrumental in making our members more confident about how to use the different networks and then more competent to include the networks in their own marketing and communications plans."

Based on its Social Media Task Force's findings, IAEE also plans to develop several face-to-face educational programs focusing on social media.

"You can be certain that if someone in the industry wants to learn something about the use of social media, IAEE will be the place to find it," said IAEE Director of Learning Experiences Jayne Rogers.
