Santa Clara, Calif. -- Global Hyatt Corp. has acquired the 505-room Westin Santa Clara, which is located adjacent to the convention center here in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Hyatt, which bought the property from Strategic Hotel Capital for an undisclosed price, has renamed the hotel the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara. The hotel features more than 60,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a 22,000-square-foot ballroom.
"One of Silicon Valley's most prominent hotels and meeting facilities is a welcome addition to Hyatt's growing portfolio of hotels," said Steve Goldman, Hyatt's executive vice president.
The hotel is located near such leading high-tech companies as Cisco Systems, Intel, Sun Microsystems, and Yahoo, in addition to Paramount's Great America Theme Park.
Hyatt, which owns or operates some 215 hotels in 44 countries under the Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Grand Hyatt, and Park Hyatt brands, has aggressively expanded over the past year.
Last January, the company acquired the AmeriSuites chain of 143 limited-service hotels in the United States. Hyatt plans to re-introduce the chain next year under a new Hyatt Place brand.
The company is also developing 29 Hyatt hotels, including 10 new hotels in China.
