HSMAI to Host Second Annual MEET National Conference in September

Registration is now open for its second annual MEET National conference, taking place Sept. 5-6 in Washington, D.C., the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) yesterday.

A re-imagined, re-named and re-branded version of HSMAI's signature series of "Affordable Meetings" conferences and exhibitions, the MEET series — which stands for Meetings, Events, Education, Technology — debuted in September 2011 with the inaugural MEET National.

"Last year's first-ever HSMAI's MEET National show was an enormous success, and we're dedicated to making the industry's premier show the best yet," said HSMAI Executive Vice President Fran Brasseux. "We've listened to the feedback of our attendees to target exactly what they need to continue to grow as professionals and are offering the best-possible networking and educational opportunities."

Key components of the MEET series include an educational program known as MEET University, which replaces traditional classroom-style learning with hands-on workshops that include case studies, peer-to-peer roundtables and "Top 10" stations; a reverse trade show buyer appointment expo known as TEEM Up, where exhibitors visit and meet with planners, instead of the other way around; a MEET Exhibitor Concierge, which assists exhibitors before, during and after the show with appointment setting, sales and marketing; and a virtual extension of the two-day conference called MEET On, the purpose of which is delivering MEET educational content to a wider audience and connecting exhibitors with planners "365 days a year."

Education topics planned for this year's MEET National show include a keynote address by body language expert Janine Driver; peer-to-peer roundtables on topics such as legal issues, social media and exhibitor ROI; speed learning sessions on subjects like contracting, food and beverage trends, and the CMP application process; and additional sessions on topics such as smartphones, ethics and government meetings.
