The Atlanta-based Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association (HCEA) recently held its 2008 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, where 752 participants, including a record 208 first-time attendees, convened in order to discuss high-level issues and challenges within the medical meetings industry.
Held June 21 through June 24, this year's HCEA gathering was the second largest annual meeting in HCEA history. Highlights included the keynote address, which was given by The Water Coolers, a musical sketch comedy group; the HCEA Exhibition, which included 114 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and services for the medical meetings market; and several educational events during which regulation, compliance and globalization were major topics.
"HCEA's membership recognized the need for training that will prepare them for the increasing challenges they face in this industry right now—increased regulatory and legislative scrutiny, the economic downturn, travel pressures—and they turned out in force at HCEA this year to get it," HCEA Executive Vice President Eric Allen said in a statement. "Having this training in a beautiful and sophisticated setting like Salt Lake City was an added bonus."
HCEA will hold its 2009 Annual Meeting June 13 through June 16 in Tampa. For more information, visit www.hcea.org
