Groups Collaborate to Reform Convention Center Lease Agreements

One of its New Year’s resolutions is to improve convention center lease agreements to benefit both venues and industry, according to the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), which last month announced a unique partnership with the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM).

According to IAEE, a joint IAEE/IAVM task force has been created to examine convention center lease agreements and create best practices that will benefit all parties involved through “clearer, more standardized contractual language.”

“The IAEE volunteer leadership and staff teams are thrilled to work closely with our exhibitions industry partners at IAVM to develop new and improved best practices and processes for convention center lease agreements,” IAEE President and CEO David DuBois said in a statement. “Our goals are mutually collaborative as we strive to improve the important relationships and workings between show organizers and convention center management.”

The ultimate goal of the task force will be creating various contract clauses that can be used as “standards” in lease agreements.

“This is an initiative that was conceived by our convention center committee as part of a desire to collaborate more closely with their show organizer customers,” said IAVM President and CEO Vicki Hawarden. “We are excited to be able to work together with IAEE to produce guidelines that can have a real impact on the industry.”
