Eventia Launches Green Meetings Tools

Eventia, the United Kingdom's official meetings and events industry association, has launched a new suite of online tools to help meeting planners design and execute sustainable events, it announced this summer.

Available for download via its website, the new tools were created by Eventia's corporate responsibility working party and include:

• A description of BS8901:2009, the British standard for sustainable meetings and events, as well as a guide to the key steps required for implementing it;

• An overview of ISO14001, a globally recognized environmental management system against which organizations in other industries often certify themselves;

• An overview of the Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol;

• A look at the main differences between ISO14001 and BS8901; and

• Information on what is accredited and non-accredited certification and benchmarking.

Also launched was an online guide that organizations can use to create their own corporate responsibility code of conduct, which details the elements of a corporate social responsibility program — with regard to environment, community, suppliers and employees — as well as how to implement, measure and track them.

"We are pleased with the progress the working party has made this year in refreshing existing resources and adding some significant new ones," said Eventia spokesperson Aileen Reuter. "The tools provided are both practical and accessible and will be of real benefit to the different types of members within the Eventia community."
