EIBTM Reports Increased Optimism, Attendance at 2013 Show

The 2013 edition of the European Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (EIBTM) is proof that the meetings industry is on an upswing, according to organizer Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE), which today released a post-show wrap-up indicating positive results and increased optimism that its says bode well for the entire sector.

Although it didn’t release specific attendance numbers, RTE says there was a 7.7 percent increase in trade visitor attendance at this year’s show, which took place Nov. 19-21 in Barcelona. Additionally, it says, there were more than 65,000 pre-scheduled appointments between exhibitors and hosted buyers.

The positive numbers translated to positive energy on the trade show floor, according to exhibitors.

“EIBTM is the place to meet people,” said John Freudenthaler, regional director of sales, Western Europe, Starwood Hotels and Resorts. “This year you can feel more optimism and the confidence is back.”

Industry optimism was confirmed in the latest edition of RTE’s IBTM Global Meetings Industry Research: According to the study, 93 percent of European buyers predict that the meetings and events business in Europe will either increase or stay the same over the next 12 months.

“We really hope that all of the new initiatives we implemented this year, and the effort put in to securing a quality driven hosted buyer program and increase in trade visitors, helped contribute to the great sense of revived optimism across the show floor,” RTE Senior Exhibition Director Graeme Barnett said in a statement. “We have also received overwhelming positive feedback from exhibitors and buyers about our new show floor layout and the additional networking areas also clearly added to the vibrant business atmosphere. By the end of the show we had already re-booked more than 35 percent of the floor for 2014.”

Next year’s EIBTM will take place Nov. 18-20, 2014, in Barcelona. For more information, visit www.eibtm.com.
