Destination Marketing Association International Names New Executives

Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) has made two executive appointments, it announced this week: Charles Jeffers II has been named chief operating officer of DMAI, and Valencia Bembry executive director of the Destination & Travel Foundation.

Jeffers is a 19-year veteran of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB), where he currently is senior vice president of operations and executive director for East Point, sales and marketing. Previously ACVB's vice president of membership and technology, his achievements there include overseeing several redesigns of ACVB's website and launching the bureau's "For Members Only" (FMO) website, where ACVB members can download leads and access convention calendars.

"Charles' rich background in operations, membership, and technology, combined with his DMO experience with a gateway destination marketing organization, are a perfect fit for DMAI," DMAI President and CEO Michael Gehrisch said in a statement.

Bembry, a current DMAI staffer, is presently the organization's director of accreditation programs, a role in which she has overseen DMAI's Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP), including the development and launch of DMAP's new Accreditation Management System. In addition to her new role as executive director of the Destination & Travel Foundation, she has been promoted to senior vice president of accreditation and strategic initiatives at DMAI, where she will remain in charge of DMAP.

"Valencia has contributed greatly to DMAIs accreditation efforts and her extensive background in hospitality, economic development and associations uniquely qualify her for leading the efforts of our Foundation and accreditation programs," Gehrisch said.
