Despite Economy, EIBTM Says Pre-Registration, First-Time Exhibitors Up

Even amid current economic conditions, the numbers of pre-registered attendees and first-time exhibitors are up this year for its annual European Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings (EIBTM) Exhibition, Reed Travel Exhibitions announced last week.

So far, EIBTM—which will take place Dec. 2-4 in Barcelona—has attracted more than 3,000 suppliers and approximately 63 first-time exhibitors from more than 100 countries, according to Reed, which said that this year's numbers exceed last year's, although it did not release data from 2007.

Also up this year is the amount of stand space from several countries—including Turkey, New Zealand, France, Dubai, Croatia, India, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Macau, Argentina, Columbia, Peru, the United Kingdom, Malta and Sweden—and the size of EIBTM's seminar program, which Reed promises will be its biggest ever with educational sessions on topics as diverse as meetings architecture and the millennial generation.

"EIBTM is truly representative of what is happening in the meetings industry now," EIBTM's exhibition director, Mandy Torrens, said in a statement. "It provides visitors with an opportunity to consider how their businesses can develop in 2009 and beyond. Whether interested in the 'hottest' destination and venues or the most up to date technological developments, there is truly something of interest for everyone."
