When it convenes for its 2013 annual meeting, Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) will stress to destination marketing organizations (DMOs) the importance of collaboration with the theme “Better Together: Integrating Our Strengths,” it announced yesterday.
The meeting, taking place July 15-17 in Orlando, will include more than 40 education sessions on topics such as forming integrated teams, building collaborative partnerships, creating integrated sales and marketing, and positioning and strengthening the DMO industry as a channel.
“Here at DMAI, we have long realized destination marketing as a serious engine to drive job creation and economic growth through travel and tourism,” DMAI President and CEO Michael Gehrisch said in a statement. “We equally realize the challenging environment for destination marketing executives, and are committed to improving the effectiveness of these organizations and ensuring their success.”
DMAI’s opening general session will feature a keynote address from futurist Rachel Botsman, author of “What’s Mine is Yours: How Collaborative Consumption is Changing the Way We Live,” who will discuss the power of collaboration and sharing through technology, and their ability to transform the way people live, work, consume and travel. Its closing general session, meanwhile, will feature marketing and leadership strategist David Meerman Scott, who will share marketing and promotion ideas for DMOs.
