Four-hundred and eighty-nine meeting professionals passed the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) exam on Jan. 7, 2012, the Convention Industry Council (CIC) announced yesterday.
Established in 1985, the CMP program is designed to "increase the professionalism of meeting managers," "recognize and raise industry standards," and "increase the value of these practitioners to their employers," according to CIC, which said more than 14,000 meeting professionals in 46 countries have earned the CMP credential since its inception.
Obtaining the CMP designation is a two-part process consisting of an application and a written examination. Additionally, applicants must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of industry-specific continuing education or a meeting management internship.
The January CMP exam was offered at 15 locations across the United States, as well as Italy, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. The next exam is scheduled for July 12-21, 2012.
