CWT Meetings & Events Expands into China

CWT Meetings & Events, the meetings and events division of Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), has entered China’s rapidly growing meetings and events (M&E) market, it announced yesterday.

According to CWT Meetings & Events, the Chinese government has granted it a tour operating license that will allow it to deliver inbound and domestic M&E in China for its clients. This makes CWT the first global travel management company to manage both its travel management and M&E operations in China in-house.

“CWT China’s rapid growth in the last decade is an accurate reflection of the tremendous potential of this market,” CWT China General Manager Albert Zhong said in a statement. “China’s business travel market has grown to become the second largest in the world according to the [Global Business Travel Association], and meetings and events are key drivers of this. With the launch of CWT Meetings & Events in China, we aim to grow our presence in this space and provide both local and multinational companies the expertise and support they need to organize creative, cost-effective and impactful meetings and events.”

CWT Meetings & Events’ areas of specialization include event planning and execution, including event strategy, event production, event management, delegate management, venue sourcing, group travel and strategic meetings management.

Said Floyd Widener, senior vice president, CWT Meetings & Events worldwide, “We are proud to be the first global travel management company with presence in China to offer both travel management and meeting and events services under the same roof and deliver the consistently high-quality of service that our clients have come to expect from us around the world. In addition, compliance has become increasingly important for companies in China and CWT will continue to work in partnership with its current and prospective clients to ensure compliance is a priority.”

CWT Meetings & Events China will be led by Ike Zhang, who is based in Shanghai.
