CVBs of Use to Corporate Planners

A surprising result came from MiMegasite's latest poll question: How do you use the local CVB when planning a meeting in a particular city? The surprise is that 44 percent of corporate planners said that "The CVB is an important info source and liaison with local suppliers," while another 44 percent said "The CVB is simply a supplemental info source for me." It is generally assumed that many corporate meetings have little or no contact with a CVB because they most often require only one hotel, and thus have little need for the logistics-coordination abilities and liaison services with off-site venues that CVBs offer. That assumption appears dated, especially as CVBs offer new services over time--particularly in marketing the event to attendees--to make their cities more attractive for meetings. Thus, only 12 percent said, "The CVB plays no role in my meetings."

On the association side, the answers were a bit more predictable: 62 percent said that "The CVB is an important info source and liaison with local suppliers." Another 28 percent said "The CVB is simply a supplemental info source for me." And 10 percent said that "The CVB plays no role in my meetings." Associations are typically users of CVBs, as their meetings are often large and require multiple hotels, shuttle transportation, and interaction with large off-site venues for special events.
