CIC Loses Power

Convention Industry Council president Mary Power yesterday announced her resignation after heading the meetings industry umbrella organization for seven years.

Power, a longtime hotel executive who became CIC's full-time president in 2000, helped expand its Certified Meeting Professional program and oversaw the creation of the Accepted Practices Exchange initiative, which sought to establish standard meetings industry definitions. The organization's daily management will be provided by Management Options, which has supplied such services since May 2006. Power will assist in the transition.

"It has been a tremendous experience working to expand the scope of CIC and enhance the meetings and conventions industry," Power said. "My decision to leave has not been an easy one, but I am very proud of what we've been able to accomplish during my time as president, and I am confident the organization is headed in a positive direction."
