CIC Announces July 2010 CMP Class

Four-hundred and fifty-nine meeting professionals passed the CMP exam on July 24, 2010, the Convention Industry Council (CIC) announced last week.

"Congratulations to this latest class of CMPs," said CMP Board Chair Cathy Breden, CAE, CMP, chief operating officer of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE). "The CMP designation sets the standard and the July 2010 CMP class demonstrates a high level of expertise. The CMP board of directors applauds the continued dedication and commitment to the profession of meetings management."

Established in 1985, the CMP program is designed to "increase the professionalism of meeting managers," "recognize and raise industry standards," and "increase the value of these practitioners to their employers," according to CIC, which said more than 14,000 meeting professionals in 36 countries have earned the CMP since its inception.

"We are thrilled to bestow the designation on another class of meeting professionals," said CMP Program Director Christina Buck, CMP. "The CMP is a highly sought after certification within our industry because it demonstrates an elevated knowledge level and professionalism as a result of passing a rigorous examination."

Obtaining the CMP designation is a two-part process consisting of an application and a written examination. The next North American exam is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2011.
