CIBTM 2012 Opens, Will Be Biggest Ever

This year's China Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings (CIBTM) show will be the biggest to date, organizer Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) announced yesterday on the event's opening day.

Taking place Sept. 12-14 in Beijing, the show is expected to attract more than 5,000 meeting professional attendees over its three days — up from 4,400 in 2011 — as well as 398 exhibitors, up 7 percent from 2011, with an 18 percent increase in the number of exhibitors from China. Also up — by 15 percent — is the number of pre-scheduled appointments between suppliers and hosted buyers, the number of which is up 36 percent from 2011.

"We are delighted with the response we have had to CIBTM this year, in particular the increase in hosted buyers from China," said CIBTM Project Manager Jeffrey Xu. "This year we spent time in the regions building awareness of the MICE industry through a number of road shows and one of the reasons for the 36 percent increase in hosted buyers is a direct result of our work in the second- and third-tier cities around China.

"We have also doubled the number of corporate and association buyers from Beijing. As one of the key measurements for the success of our show is gauged by the amount of business leads created between buyers and suppliers, and with 8,459 pre-scheduled appointments already confirmed, this is a very positive start to the show."

CIBTM will include more than 19 education sessions delivered by meetings industry associations, including Meetings Professional International (MPI), the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE). For more information, visit
