Sochi, Russia -- All 113 people aboard an Armenian passenger airplane died today when the plane crashed into the Black Sea as it approached this coastal resort city.
Officials attributed the crash to stormy weather, which included driving rain and cloud cover as low as 330 feet above the water. They said they believe terrorism was not involved.
The Armavia airplane, an Airbus A-320, originated from the Armenian capital of Yerevan, about 350 miles away. It disappeared from radar screens about four miles from the coast at about 2:15 a.m. local time.
Most of those who died were Armenian; 26 Russians were reported aboard. Among the dead were six children. The crash was Armenia's worst aviation accident, officials said.
Armavia is not among the more than 90 commercial air carriers that in March the European Union banned or restricted from operating within its territory.
